How did you get your
start in solar? It was all about the right timing. My start in renewable energy
industry, and the opportunity to join Swinerton Renewable Energy (SRE) came at
a time when I realized I really yearned to better align my personal and
professional paths especially while becoming increasingly aware of our personal
impact on ourselves, our society and our environment.
What's your day-to-day like? My day-to-day can vary quite a lot. I typically start each day by reading/sorting e-mails so I know what’s ahead and can appropriately prioritize my action items and tasks. From there, each day can vary depending on project pursuits deadlines and meetings.
A large part of my current role is to support our business development and preconstruction teams: from facilitating pursuit kick-offs, liaising between clients, engineering partners and internal teams, and delivering our final RFP responses and proposal packages to clients.
What do you like about your job? I absolutely love the team aspect of my job. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed - there is a real sense of camaraderie and partnership.
It’s such a great feeling to be a part of a winning pursuit - to be involved with a project during bidding stage, and then to walk the site during construction and see our teams’ efforts come to fruition.
What's your ultimate career goal? My goal is to continue to advance within the company and industry, and to help foster the professional growth of my colleagues and our client partners. We can’t do what we do, and we can’t thrive without the support of one another.
I am so excited to continue to learn as this industry evolves and expands.
How could the solar industry benefit from more diversity? I believe there is always room for improvement, always. But I also believe this industry is already continuously incorporating diversity. I feel incredibly fortunate that SRE and many of our partners are hugely diverse.
However,
in terms of the industry as a whole, we need to continue to encourage and
mentor others to follow suit; we need to lead by example. The more diverse our
teams and workforce are, the greater opportunity we have to develop and
succeed. Diversity (in any setting or industry) will always cultivate the
change needed to launch forward-thinking ideas and cost-saving techniques which
inevitably lay the foundation for long-term and profitable business
relationships.
